Thank You!

Thank you so much to everyone who generously donated and spread the word on #GivingTuesday. Because of the donations received, we have already ordered updated materials and begun our second wave of outreach to contact 120 free and subsidized day cares throughout December and January.

Don’t let a day go by without using your words to fight inequality. It’s easier than you think. Share this week’s shocking statistic to raise awareness about the word gap.

SPREAD THE WORD
This week’s shocking statistic:

In 4th grade, low-income children are statistically three years behind their high-income peers. This achievement gap starts with the number of words parents speak and read to their child from birth unitl preschool. Research shows that by four years old, it is too late to overcome the vocabulary gap between high and low income children.

WORD OF THE WEEK
Don’t forget to build your own vocabulary:

PYRRHIC: When any gain has come at too great a cost to have been worthwhile for the winner.

WORDS HAVE POWER
Some quotes to live by:

“Those who face what is actually before them, unburdened by the past, undisturbed by the future, these are those who live, who make the best use of their lives; these are those who have found the secret of contentment.”
– Alban Goodier

ACTIVITY UPDATE

Shout out to the Director of our newest partner at Bellevue Educare-Child Care Center! Her enthusiasm is inspiring, signing up the 41 children she serves for Word Rebel books and resources, in addition to signing up every teacher, “so that they can reinforce Word Rebel reading and encourage parents to use their words”!
